Commercial Door Repair: What Our Expert Sees in the Field
Commercial doors take far more abuse than any home door. Here is what fails and how JDM elite technician Yuval upgrades them so they stop failing.
Yuval, Elite Technician at JDMPersonally repairs 20–30 doors a week · sliding, pocket & commercial
Opened 1,000x more than a home door
High traffic is why storefront doors start scratching the floor
On a storefront, the most common problem I see is the door scratching the floor because it is no longer aligned with the frame.
A commercial door gets opened a thousand times more than a house door, all day long, so everything wears far faster.
When it falls out of alignment, we realign the door to the frame and get it closing correctly again.
More moving parts than a home door
Commercial doors add a hydraulic closer on top of hinges and a lock
A house door has hinges and a lock.
A commercial door adds a door closer, the hydraulic arm on top that pulls the door shut automatically when you let go.
More moving parts under constant traffic means more that can wear out, and the closer and the hinges are the two things I replace most on commercial doors.
Zero callbacks after the upgrade
We swap failing pivots for a heavy-duty continuous hinge
Many commercial doors hang on a pivot or standard hinges, and under heavy use those bend and break.
What we do is upgrade the door to a continuous hinge, one hinge that runs the full height of the door from bottom to top, built for heavy-duty, high-traffic use.
Once we install a continuous hinge, I honestly never get a callback on that hinge again.
Then we realign the door to the frame so it works like new.

Why is our storefront door scratching the floor?
It has fallen out of alignment with the frame, which is the most common commercial issue we see. Storefront doors are opened a thousand times more than a home door, so they wear and drop out of alignment fast. We realign the door to the frame and, where the hinges are worn, upgrade to a heavy-duty continuous hinge so it stops happening.
What is different about repairing a commercial door versus a home door?
A commercial door has more moving parts and far more use. On top of hinges and a lock, it has a hydraulic door closer that shuts it automatically, and it is opened constantly all day. That is why hinges and closers wear out fastest. We repair those and often upgrade the door to heavy-duty hardware built for the traffic.
What is a continuous hinge and why do you install them?
A continuous hinge is a single hinge that runs the entire height of the door, instead of two or three separate hinges or a pivot. Standard pivots and hinges bend and break under high traffic. The continuous hinge is heavy-duty and built for constant use, and after we install one I never get a callback on it. It is the upgrade that keeps commercial doors reliable.
Expert Commercial Door Repair You Can Count On
From Gal Cohen, Field Area Manager: "I've spent 20+ years on commercial door repair jobs, and our crews now run them across Florida, New York, Georgia and Colorado. Most repairs we handle wrap up in roughly 2 hours, same-day, and you can see the real before-and-afters in the photos and videos on this page."
JDM repairs and installs commercial doors of every kind: automatic sliding entries, fire-rated assemblies, steel security doors, roll-ups, and storefront glass systems. Commercial doors run far more daily cycles than residential ones and face fire codes, ADA rules, and security demands, so a failure shuts down access and revenue. Our commercial techs keep you open.
Automatic sliding doors for retail and medical sites get calibrated and sensor-tuned for safe, smooth operation. Fire-rated doors are inspected, tested, and certified to code so your building stays compliant. Steel doors, warehouse and loading-dock roll-ups, and storefront glass entries are all core work for our crews.
Businesses pick us for solutions that balance security, accessibility, energy use, and the look of your brand. We schedule around your hours, run priority emergency service when a door failure stops operations, and offer maintenance plans that catch small issues before they become costly ones. From the first walkthrough to the final inspection, every project gets the same careful attention.

"After I made an appointment I decided I was going to try and do it myself. Michael FaceTimed me, walked me through what to do, then call back if I still needed him. An hour later I called him and he was at my house in 35 minutes. Some of the best service I've ever received from a contractor. He finished in two hours and went above and beyond. The same-day service was incredible. Absolute professionals."

"After a couple of hiccups with getting our repair done by someone else, our technician Richard showed up on time (actually half an hour earlier than the appointment time). He was very polite and got the job done in the time he told us it would take. Our glass door now glides smoothly and is able to lock again. I highly recommend Richard, he represented his company very well. I will definitely consider using them in the future!"
